Our skin is the ultimate accessory; you literally can’t take it off, and that’s why it’s so important to look after it.

There are a lot of buzzwords in the skincare industry: SPFs, acids, moisturisers, and serums. Unfortunately, this saturated market means it is hard to stand out as a skincare company.

With so many health and beauty brands offering a similar product to several other companies, you may find yourself in a situation where your product isn’t selling as well as a competitor’s, but why? More often than not, brands with shelf appeal come out on top. Include any sustainable values the brand drive, and then they are on to a guaranteed winner.

Consumers are looking for eco-friendly packaging alternatives more than ever before, so sustainable skincare packaging design does play its part in purchasing decisions.

We aren’t biased because we are a packaging design agency; we know that cosmetic packaging design is just as crucial to a brand as the packaging itself! More people than ever opt for sustainable options over non-eco-friendly alternatives.

Are you struggling for inspiration? Here are our top picks.

Let’s talk about our favourite sustainable skincare packaging designs!

Vacation by Poolsuite.Fm

If you look at Poolside.Fm’s web design, it’s like going into a time machine, and that’s their intention!

This nostalgic sunscreen’s creative packaging design is meant to transport you in time to the 80s; you can hear the cheesy 80s music as soon as you apply it (really, a QR code to Poolsuite.Fm’s radio channel is on every bottle’s packaging design).

Labelled as the “world’s best-smelling sunscreen” with smells of coconut, banana, pool water, and swimsuit lycra, this exceptional sun protection is reef-friendly and dermatologist-approved. Not only does Vacation’s sunscreen smell delicious, but provides great benefits for the skin. Dermatologists recommend using an SPF sunscreen every day, to protect against ageing and skin cancers like melanomas.

Our packaging design agency is always looking for unique packaging design ideas, and Vacation ticks all the boxes, including using recycled materials to make their sunscreen bottles!

We love the sound of this sun cream; we’ve already got our Walkmans and are strolling down Bournemouth beach.

Wild England

Of course, we couldn’t talk about sustainable skincare favourites without talking about one of our fantastic eco-friendly clients.

Wild England creates organic, ethically sourced, eco-friendly luxury washroom toiletries that are fragranced naturally.

They currently boast a range of body lotions, cleansing gels, conditioners, and shampoos that smell as good as it looks. Scented with orange and cardamon or lavender and jasmine, these skin and hair care products are great for the planet in terms of their beautiful ingredients and “wild” sustainable packaging design.

Wild England came to our packaging design agency to create an eco-friendly packaging solution for their range of high-end washroom health and beauty range. The journey started as a biodegradable soap dish and evolved into something much larger. Our design team created the Wild England brand displayed on the packaging, which comes as a naked reusable glass bottle with biodegradable refill bottles and bottle holders. The bottle holders alone are incredibly sustainable in approach. Made from mycelium, basically mushrooms, which is grown in specially designed moulds to leave a fabulous alternative to holding a glass bottle!

SBTRCT

SBTRCT is revolutionising the skincare industry. Their skincare range is plastic-free and palm oil free and creates solid products with no added water, a rare alternative to oil-based serums and moisturisers that are stored in plastic. This minimises water and plastic waste.

This award-winning skincare brand has one guiding principle of “less is more”, and this can be seen in their variety of fantastic: cleansers, exfoliators, moisturisers, balms, and serums.

The packaging design is simple but effective, with striking typography on cardboard packaging. Their packaging is also recyclable and domestically compostable, an added bonus to their thought-out eco-friendly packaging design and product.
