With Facebook rolling out the timeline design for brands on 30th March (you’ll automatically get the new look on this date whether you want it or not!) – it’s time to start thinking about the new look and feel for your Facebook page. The new design gives your followers a much more visual outline of your brand and by using it carefully you can create a really powerful and successful page which will give your current followers what they want and attract new followers.
A brief overview of the changes:
Cover photo: the timeline is now the permanent landing page for your Facebook page – rather than your wall or custom landing page. The cover photo at the top of the page therefore needs to showcase your product or brand and, if used cleverly, can create a real impact. Facebook do have strict rules on what can’t be used in the photo e.g. no promotions, you can’t encourage people to like your page or display your web or email address etc. Think creatively and try something different.
Profile picture. Your profile picture still sits at the top of the page but has reduced in size. Use this for your logo and make sure it uses the right pixels.
Apps tabs. Your tabs sit at the top of the page underneath your cover photo. 4 of your app boxes are automatically visual and you can choose the order they appear in. Your photo app box is still shown first and your latest photos will appear here.
Pictures on the wall. When you post a new picture onto your wall you can ‘highlight’ the post so that the photo stands out on your timeline. As your followers take a journey through your timeline (by scrolling down the page) certain posts and images will then be highlighted.
