According to research from designrush.com, consumers form an opinion about a product within the first seven seconds of seeing it.

But what is it in those seven seconds that makes us stop, pick up a product and think, yes this is a bit of me?

Is it the copy, price, design, or maybe even the feeling of familiarity? Maybe it’s all four?

Here we examine four brands who are challenging traditional consumer behaviour with a more contemporary, simplistic and less-is-more approach to their packaging – and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t like it. It’s lovely. Go on, have a little scroll.

#1 RXBAR

Kellogg’s recently launched RXBAR into the UK, through a start-up project. RXBAR said they are not only selling a brand but also a culture customers identify with. No wonder consumers love it, there seem to be no surprises here, what you see is what you get…literally!

Simple packaging design

#2 Dear Mayuko

Arrrr Dear Mayuko, this packaging, is like a breath of fresh air. The Japanese beauty brand, that provides their customers with natural ingredients extracted from silkworm cocoons aims to create products for a simple mind and a lovely time. The artistic shapes on the packaging reference the female physique, if you look closely you can see.

Packaging design made simple - CuCo

#3 Denada Co.

This ice-cream packaging was designed by Olympian hockey player Jayde Taylor (and friends). Keeping it simple, this packaging aims to create something that people could pig out on – guilt-free. Bolding the text highlights their key message, sugar-free – yes you read it right, sugar-free ice-cream!

Simple product packaging

#4 Romanico Baby

The baby-bedding brand, Romanico Baby created geometric illustrations based on animal life motifs, found in the Romanesque monuments. This elegantly-stylish packaging brings hearty heritage right to the 21st century with simplistic pastels.

As a packaging design agency, CuCo loves creating packaging that will stand out amongst the noise. Going back to the core of your product and taking out the jargon can often create a compelling, memorable and authentic packaging concept.
