The most romantic day of the year is fast approaching, with couples old and young declaring their undying love with fancy dinners, sugary love hearts and cheap flowers bought at the last minute from the petrol station on the way home from work. The pressure to plan the perfect date is huge and with Valentines Day falling on a Saturday this year (!!!), couples far and wide are starting to sweat at the prospect of planning an entire day together filled with blissful harmony.
So, are you stuck for ideas? Want to do something different? Or strapped for cash, but still want to give your other half the best valentine’s day ever? Us too. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! CuCo adore our coastal hometown of Bournemouth. With the seven miles of beaches, luscious forests and award-winning restaurants, Bournemouth is undoubtedly an incredibly romantic destination and has an abundance of diverse activities to indulge in this Valentine’s. Why not take a look at our top 10!
#1 One of Bournemouth’s newest attractions, the PierZip, is having a special (and rather romantic) Red Rose Offer. All couples presenting a red rose at RockReef Reception can get swept off their feet more than once this Valentine’s and ride the Zipline for only £20! We personally love the idea of this exciting, different and adventurous valentine’s date, especially perfect for those who love simply hanging out with their other half! It’s certainly unique, and zipp-ing along the pier whilst taking in those gorgeous beach views is certainly super romantic!
#2 If zip-lining is not your thing, but you’re still after an energetic romantic activity, how about skating the night away at the Cool Coast indoor ice rink at the BIC! Open for a special valentine’s ‘Fire on Ice’ DJ night, bring your loved one along for a romantic skate, enjoy the live DJ and the chocolates and flowers giveaway!
#3 Next, one for the daredevils amongst you. If you want something really exciting, try Go Ape at Moors Valley. Imagine swinging through the trees with that special someone, getting the adrenaline flowing and hearts pumping. It’ll be a date to remember for sure!
#4 How about exploring the ruins of Corfe Castle and then enjoying a lovely Valentine’s Day Tea of delicious smoked salmon sandwiches, heart shaped shortbread, chocolate dipped strawberries and more! Corfe Castle is steeped in history, but more importantly you and your other half can lose yourselves in the ruins and maybe find hidden wonders amongst them!
#5 If you want to make a day of it, how about taking a trip into the New Forest? With such a beautiful national park right on out doorstep, you can really have a truly magical day! Go for country walk through the forest, see the wild horses, cuddle up and have a romantic picnic, or maybe visit one of the New Forest’s many gorgeous pubs or hotels for a spot of dinner. There is so much to do, and you don’t even have to spend a penny if you don’t want to! Just let the natural beauty be your wingman.
#6 If you love the great outdoors but fancy something a little less active, how about renting a pair of segways and leisurely exploring nature together? We have some great places locally where you can do this, for example Moors Valley and Upton Country Park. Segways are a fun, different and hilarious activity, which will prove to be a wonderfully unique date that neither of you will ever forget!
#7 Another unusual activity uniquely-Bournemouth is a romantic balloon ride. We are of course suggesting the Bournemouth Balloon, one of our beloved town’s key features. Whilst it is of course weather permitting, a ride would, in our opinion, be one of the ultimate romantic dates. Where else, other than Bournemouth, can you share a kiss up in the skies looking over our glorious town?
#8 Want a more classic valentine’s experience? How about heading to the cinema to catch one of the all-time greatest romantic films: Casablanca. Starting from the 15th (OK so not quite valentine’s day, but near enough!) Casablanca will be showing at Odeon cinemas for a limited time. Just imagine yourselves cuddling in the back row, watching an old school Hollywood romance… perfection!
#9 If you want to go down the traditional Valentine’s meal route, Bournemouth has an abundance of amazing restaurants to suit any tastes and budgets! If you fancy splashing out, we have stylish cliff-top restaurant and bar The Edge, which serves delicious modern British food; or go more continental with the gorgeous French restaurant L’Assiette! For a more affordable meal, but with no less style, why not head to Aruba, Bournemouth’s very own beach bar/ restaurant? Situated at the entrance to Bournemouth Pier you are guaranteed fantastic sea views and mouth-watering cocktails and cuisine. We also have new burger joint 7bone, the charity- run RNLI cafe in Poole, and for a light lunch we have South Coast Roast, one of Bournemouth’s premier boutique coffee shops. This is just a small selection of what Bournemouth has to offer, so we are sure that if a romantic Valentine’s meal is what you fancy, you will find the perfect match for you!
#10 Finally, why not fully embrace Bournemouth’s USP and head to our blue flag beach for a romantic seaside walk, then grab some fish and chips from Harry Ramsden’s or bring your own food and snuggle up on the beach under some blankets for a beach picnic! This could be a seriously romantic date which can only happen here in Bournemouth, and even better you don’t even have to spend a penny!
